Is A2 Desi Ghee a recommendation in Pregnancy?
In India I have seen a few common myths that assure having ghee during pregnancy could help easy deliveries, beautiful babies or ghee helps to have normal deliveries. But none of these ideas has scientific evidence, to support their credibility.
For pregnant women, there is a necessity to include FAT in their diets on a daily basis. According to the studies, a female body requires 200 calories extra per day to enrich her baby inside the womb.5 to 8 teaspoons of fat is the medical recommendation for fat intake in pregnancy, out of which 10% to 12% from Saturated fats are necessary. Ghee makes “smart babies” a direct source of Good Cholesterol.
Ghee is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, Omega 9 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Ghee has many health benefits but its benefits in pregnancy are not scientifically proven. However, in Indian culture ghee is believed to have the following benefits in pregnancy:

- Ghee can be taken with milk as well. However it is less advisable in pregnancy
Why Consuming Desi Cow Ghee in Pregnancy Might Not Be Safe?
Consuming ghee in pregnancy does not have any ill effects on the health of the mother or her unborn child. You may include ghee in your diet during pregnancy as it is a good source of fats.
However, it is important to include a moderate amount of ghee in your diet, as consuming large amounts of ghee could lead to weight gain and obesity. Physical activity also reduces in the last months of pregnancy and more amount of ghee could make you and your baby gain more weight.
Normal or vaginal delivery can become difficult in case your baby gains more weight. Adding ghee to your diet may also lead to excess weight gain in case you are already consuming a high caloric diet or consuming junk food often. Excess weight and obesity may cause complications in your pregnancy and it may become very difficult to get rid of excess fat after childbirth.
Why you should use desi ghee for pregnancy:-
- Helps baby’s development: Ghee plays a key role in maintaining a healthy system along with its antiviral properties. It contains high amounts of butyrate, a carboxylic acid that plays a task within the health of the gut.
- Stretch marks problem in pregnancy: The foremost problem you suffer in pregnancy is that the stretch marks problem. Usually towards the tip of pregnancy when your belly is stretched the foremost and might spread to arms, legs, and buttocks. Also applying ghee gently could be a home remedy to get rid of stretch marks.
- Natural stress reliever: Pregnancy includes hormonal imbalances, physical changes, fatigue, etc. are often stressful times for women. Desi ghee is useful for relaxing nerves, lower stress, and trigger fat hormones in pregnant women when you add ghee regularly to your diet.
- Good for lactose intolerant baby: Ghee is a more robust option for the baby than other dairy products. It also has A2 beta-casein protein that helps the baby to extend its system.
